Velum is a first person 3D puzzle game set in the Boston Public Garden that was created over the course of a year by a team of student game developers. It has been shown at both PAX East 2017 and Boston FIG 2017. Work on the game is still in progress, and release is expected during the first half of 2018.
All members of the team collaborated on multiple aspects of design, including the general concept of the game, puzzle and gameplay design, and narrative design, among others.

I was personally responsible for the environmental design of the game, as well as shaping the artistic vision of the level. Since it was set in the Boston Public Garden, we needed to create many different kinds of trees and organic components to convey the atmosphere of the park. I decided to create modular components to each tree, so that they could be assembled in different ways. I believed that this would make them feel more believable, since there wasn't only one shape of tree for each type.

We wanted to cultivate a dark, mysterious, and almost mystical atmosphere, while retaining the integrity of the park. We also looked to traditional art, specifically impressionism, and attempted to incorporate some of the aspects we appreciated most into a three-dimensional space.

Below is a small showcase of some of the assets I've worked on, including models, textures, and screenshots of the PBR materials within the Unreal Engine.

Below is a screenshot of the whole game level from within the engine. After that, there are a number of screenshots from around the game to show how it would appear to the player at different points.
